Was this working okay previously? And when did you start getting this issue?

Last option here is a system restore(not reset to factory defaults). You can also check the power options here. Through control panel.

Hi David, when you open up device manager, are you getting a yellow question mark with the DVD drive plugged in? If no, you are all good to go.

I have worked on another PC manufacturer and usually, registration is regional. Have you tried calling the support instead?

I agree there is a tape/seal in the HDD I believe and if this gets torn off, it will void the warranty. Best to call tech support and have them walk you through with this.

What is the OS on this? I believe you can do this using Windows functions. I'm not really sure on how to do this but I believe it is possible.

I haven't seen any protective plate yet. Usually that's just to cover the LID when still not purchased. It's also not usually not perfectly laid out.

Can you gently remove it? If not, it should be a protective film.

F10 doesn't load completely? Thats interesting. I'm not sure but is there a hidden partition in this unit? hidden recovery partition doesn't need disks anymore.

Sorry to hear about this but knowing that this is a 10 year old notebook, I would suggest to buy a new one. Purchasing HDD alone would be a painful task looking for a right one compatible with your motherboard. Not to mention installing it.

Buying a new one would be worth it. Just a suggestion.

Does the phone come with an installation CD? The driver should be manually installed from there. Also try to search for it in this site.
