Hi guys

I am thinking of buying this laptop, although there is one thing that i can't seem to understand on the specs sheet that you can find here: http://www.sony.co.uk/support/en/product/VPCF23P1E_B/specifications

Under the graphics section, there are two remarks, one that the VRAM is of 2GB and the other is the comment stating and i quote "Total Available Graphics Memory refers to the classification of graphics memory, which varies depending on the operating condition, version of device driver and system memory size."

Now my question is, how much dedicated graphics memory has this model got? is it 2GB? or is it less and added up to the shared memory it makes 2GB? if so, could you please tell me how much it is?

thanks

    Hi Bartimaeus26 and welcome.

It is 2GB of dedicated video memory that can be expanded when required by using available system RAM.

The NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 540M GPU comes with 1GB or 2GB dedicated memory (Sony charge an additional £80 for the 2GB version).

As you say, there are no details given for total video memory available for the 2GB version but for the 1GB version Sony say "Approx 4095MB Total Available Memory using system memory"

It does not look like the VPCF23P1E is still available on the Sony website and you may need to configure your own specification here under the '1 model found' Tab: -

It means that it has it's own memory of 2GB. Other than shared which needs to get some memory from the system if it requires so.
