Dear Valued Customer,
In 2011, we contacted customers directly about a particular issue we became aware of concerning certain models of 2007-2008 40" BRAVIA LCD HDTV Televisions listed here above. In rare cases, a particular component incorporated in certain models of 40" BRAVIA LCD HDTVs was damaged and as a result, the component could overheat and at times ignite inside of the television. This could possibly result in a hole at a part of the cabinet ceiling. At this time, we would like to reach out again to alert customers of the issue who may not have availed themselves of the service evaluation we originally offered.
We know our customers choose Sony based in large part on the trust associated with our brand and the products and services we so strongly stand behind. We will not take your trust for granted and are committed to addressing this issue proactively.
Sony still offers all customers of the subject models a free evaluation of the television. If you have one of the listed television models above and have not already had your television evaluated as part of our free evaluation program, please contact Sony to schedule a Sony authorized service technician to perform a free evaluation of your television.
When a request is made, Sony's authorized service technician will promptly visit and evaluate your television, and repair it at no charge if an affected component is found. Please note: if you have had your television inspected in the past regarding this particular issue, there is no need to repeat the evaluation.
IMPORTANT: In the meantime, if you have a television model listed here and you notice any abnormality in your TV unit and its performance (e.g.: usual noise, unusual smell or smoking) please immediately turn off the television, unplug the cord, cease use of the television and contact us. We have confirmed that the symptoms do not occur when the power is off.
You can confirm the model number of your television by looking at the label on the rear of the television.
Thank you and we apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
