Thank you for your continued interest in Sony products.
Sony is always concerned about quality and customer satisfaction and therefore is offering a firmware upgrade for Interchangeable Lens Digital Camera SLT-A55. Please refer to the "Download and Installation" section of this page on how to download and install the firmware upgrade.
Important:

Confirm the firmware version of your camera
Follow the instructions below to check the firmware version of your camera.
If the firmware version is Ver.2.00 or later, the upgrade is not required.
- Select Menu --> Setup --> Version on the camera.
- The firmware version is displayed as illustrated below.
Applicable Models
- SLT-A55 with firmware Ver.1.10
Improvements
This utility upgrades the SLT-A55 firmware to version 2.00, and provides the following benefits:
- Addition of the [Picture Effect] function.
- Enable to assign often-used features to the D-RANGE button for customization.
- Addition of a new mode to turn off display parameters.
- Improved operability of the Menu.
- High-Speed Synchronization via wireless lighting operation of the applicable external flash.
- Addition of Digital level gauge when using the optional external monitor such asthe Clip-on LCD Monitor, the CLM-V55.
System Requirements
- Computer hardware
- Hard disk space: 200MB or more
- RAM: 512MB or more
- Power source for the camera
- Fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-FW50
or
AC adapter AC-PW20 (sold separately)
Note: The upgrade can be performed only when the remaining battery level is(three marks) or more. We recommend that you use a fully charged battery or the AC adapter AC-PW20 (sold separately).
- Fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-FW50
- USB cable supplied with the camera
Note: Update functionality is not guaranteed with any other USB cable.
Install
Important notes:
- When performing the firmware upgrade, please use a fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-FW50 or the AC adapter AC-PW20 (sold separately).
- Do not remove the battery or AC adapter during the upgrade; otherwise, the camera may become inoperable due to the sudden power shutdown.
Step 1: download the firmware upgrader
- Make sure that you are logged on as a user with administrative rights.
- After reading the disclaimer, click the [Download] button below.
- The download of the [SLT-A55V2_Update1105a.exe] file (43.9MB (46 104 224 bytes)) will start.
- Save the file to the desktop of your computer (recommended).
Step 2: upgrade the firmware of your camera
- Close all currently running programs on your computer.
- Double-click the [SLT-A55V2_Update1105a.exe] file you downloaded to start up the Firmware Updater.
The Firmware Updater window appears. - According to the instruction on the Firmware Updater window, select Menu --> Setup --> USB Connection on the camera, and check if Mass Storage is selected.
If another mode than Mass Storage is selected, please select Mass Storage. - Connect the camera to the computer with the supplied USB cable.
Note: When the camera is connected to the computer, the LCD screen of the camera turns off. Please proceed to the next step. - Confirm the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon is displayed on the task tray at the lower right corner of the computer screen.
- After confirming the above, click Next on the Firmware Updater window. Figure 1 appears on the Firmware Updater window, and Figure 2 appears on the LCD screen of the camera.
Note: From now on, never turn off the camera until the firmware upgrade is completed.

Figure 2 - After confirming the screens on Figures 1 and 2, click Next. The current version and the version after the upgrade appear on the lower left part of the screen. (Figure 3)
- After confirming the screen on Figure 3, click Next.
If the screen on Figure 4 appears, the upgrade is not required. According to the message, stop the USB connection and click Finish. Turn off the camera, remove the battery pack and/or the AC adapter, reinsert the battery or reconnect the AC adapter and turn on the camera.

Figure 4 - Click the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon on the task tray at the lower right corner of the computer screen to stop the USB connection, as instructed on figure 5.
Note: Please keep the USB cable connected even after stopping the USB connection on the computer with the above operation.

Note: The screen turns off when the soft key is pressed. Please proceed to the next step. - After resetting, reconnection of the camera is verified, and the screen on Figure 6 appears.
- Click Run to start the upgrade. The progress bar appears while upgrading (approximately 3 minutes).
Note:Never turn off the camera nor disconnect the USB cable while upgrading.

Figure 7 - Turn off the camera, remove the battery pack and/or the AC adapter, reinsert the battery or reconnect the AC adapter and turn on the camera.
Step 3: Confirm the firmware version of your camera is Ver.2.00.
- Select Menu --> Setup --> Version on the camera.
- The firmware version is displayed as illustrated below.
Step 4: Download the manual describing the new available functions and how to use them.
