How to display phone, tablet and computer content on your TV: Casting, AirPlay, HDMI Cable, Screen Mirroring or Wi-Fi Direct
Whether you want to display videos, images, presentations, and even games onto a larger screen, we've got you covered with these options!
Google Cast
Casting content with Google Cast is the simplest way to display videos and images on your TV .
- Google Cast is supported on all Sony Android TVs, Google TVs and Android devices (phones or tablets).
- Your mobile device/computer/tablet and the TV must be on the same Wi-Fi network.
- Avoid TV navigation: use your phone to stream content, watch it on a big screen, and DM your friends while you're at it.
Apple AirPlay
If you're an Apple user, you can use Apple AirPlay to display videos and images on your TV .
- Apple AirPlay is supported on certain Android TVs, Google TVs and Apple devices.
- Your Apple device/computer and the TV must be on the same Wi-Fi network.
- Avoid TV navigation: use your phone to stream content, watch it on a big screen, and DM your friends while you're at it.
Screen sharing via HDMI cable
Even though Casting or Airplay are popular wireless options, a wired solution (the good old HDMI cable) can also do the trick, especially when there's no internet, or when Google Cast or AirPlay aren't available on your TV.
- Perfect if you have a non-Android TV without wireless casting options.
- No Wi-Fi required. Most HDMI cables will do (use the HDMI cable of your set top box or game console if you don't have an extra HDMI cable lying around).
- Connect the HDMI cable, select the correct TV input/source and adjust computer display settings to your taste.
Screen Mirroring
This feature lets you mirror the screen of your smartphone or tablet onto your TV. It's a convenient option if there's no Wi-Fi available, but your TV has Wi-Fi capabilities. Screen mirroring differs from casting because it replicates your phone screen on the TV. This function is not available on all TVs, so check your TV manual.
Wi-Fi Direct
The Wi-Fi Direct feature allows wireless audio and video content playback from mobile phones, cameras, and other devices directly to a compatible TV or projector without a wireless home network or the internet.
- Great to use for presentations, etc., where a quick and direct wireless connection is available.
- Creates a direct, or peer-to-peer wireless connection between the device and the TV.
