Sony Channel Editor: Basic user guide

    The Sony Channel Editor tool allows you to re-order your channel list via your PC. Simply download the list onto a USB stick, edit the order and then upload it back to your TV. The tool is available on your TV's product page.

    This article will explain how to use the tool, import/export your list, change the language and select the most suitable mode (terrestrial, satellite or operator):

    How to use the tool

    Once you have downloaded the tool to your PC, please modify the channel list of your TV using these three simple steps:

    1. Export the channel list from your TV
    2. Modify the channel list on your computer
    3. Import the modified channel list to your TV


    For more information, please follow the steps below:
     

    1.Exporting the channel list from your TV:

    • Insert a memory stick into a USB port on your TV.

    a) For Sony’s Android models go to:

    • [Home] > [Settings] > [Channel Setup] > [Digital setup] > [Technical Set-up] > [Program List Transfer] > [Export]


    b) For Sony’s non-Android models go to:

    • [Home] > [Settings] > [System Settings] > [Channel Set-up] > [Digital Set-up] > [Technical Set-up] > [Program List Transfer] > [Export]
       

    A file called “sdb.xml” will be copied onto your memory stick.

     

    2. Modifying the channel list on your computer:

    • Insert the memory stick with “sdb.xml” into a USB port on your computer.
    • Launch the Channel Editor tool and open “sdb.xml”.
    • Re-order the programmes in your channel list.
    • Save your modified channel list onto “sdb.xml” in the memory stick.


    3. Importing the channel list to your TV:

    • Insert the memory stick with the modified “sdb.xml” into a USB port on your TV.

    a) For Sony’s Android models go to:

    • [Home] > [Settings] > [Channel Setup] > [Digital setup] > [Technical Set-up] > [Program List Transfer] > [Import]
       

    b) For Sony’s non-Android models go to:

    • [Home] > [Settings] > [System Settings] > [Channel Set-up] > [Digital Set-up] > [Technical Set-up] > [Program List Transfer] > [Import]

     

    • You will have the new channel list after your TV reboots.

     

    Loading/Saving the Channel List

    At this point, you should have your ‘sdb.xml’ file exported from your TV. In order to load it into Sony Channel Editor, please click [File], and then [Load channel list] as shown in Figure 1.

    Please insert your USB stick to your computer, then navigate to and select sdb.xml in the file explorer window. Then click Open as shown in Figure 2.

    Your channels will be loaded and displayed as shown in Figure 3.

    Saving the Channel List

    After you have finished editing your channel list you can save it by clicking File and then Save channel list as in Figure 4.

    Please select sdb.xml on your USB stick and click Save as in Figure 5.

    Please click OK to overwrite the file as in Figure 6, you must overwrite sdb.xml for it to work on your TV.

    Changing the language selection

    This tool supports multiple languages. In order to change its language please click Select Language under the Settings tab as shown in Figure 7. Alternatively, you can use the keyboard shortcut: CTRL+ALT+L.

    Then you can select your language from the drop-down box as shown in Figure 8.

    Please click Save to confirm your language selection as shown in Figure 9.

    Changing modes (terrestrial, satellite and operator)

    There are three transmission types: terrestrial (cable), satellite and operator (preferred satellite) which you can select from in Sony Channel Editor. The application looks for any satellite channels in your SDB file and continues with the other types if there are no satellite channels. You are able to switch between the different modes. Select the mode you want to open as shown in Figure 10.

    You will now see the new channel list corresponding to the selected mode as shown in Figure 11.
