This guide offers helpful tips to troubleshoot lip-sync issues with your BRAVIA TV. If you notice symptoms such as out-of-sync audio (a delay between the audio and the person speaking on the TV), or a sound delay with the TV speaker or an external speaker, the steps below may help resolve the problem.
Keep in mind the following:
- TVs can sometimes experience delays with audio and video synchronisation, which is due to the general limitations of the current technology, rather than the TV itself.
- Lip-syncing issues may occur more often when watching high-definition (HD) TV compared to analogue broadcasts.
- When streaming or playing content from a DVD or Blu-ray disc player, audio delays may occur because of a poor connection or the disc itself.
- When viewing content on a smartphone or TV, the sound you hear from Bluetooth-connected devices (e.g. headphones, soundbars, receivers) may be delayed by a few milliseconds. This is a technology limitation inherent to Bluetooth technology that cannot be improved.
- Check if the issue is resolved after completing each step. If model-specific information is needed to perform any step, you should refer to your product manual for more details.
General troubleshooting:
Try the following possible solutions:
- Perform a power reset of the TV.
- Ensure your TV has the latest software update installed.
- Note: Not all TVs have software that can be updated.
- If the TV is connected to the Internet, you can download the software update via the TV menu.
- Note: Not all TVs have software that can be updated.
- Check that all cables are securely connected to the TV and source device (e.g. Blu-ray disc player, set-top box, soundbar).
- Set the Game Mode setting accordingly.
- Note: Not all TVs have this setting.
- Set the Game Mode to Off when watching TV or playing a DVD or Blu-ray disc.
- Set the Game Mode to On when playing a video game.
- Note: Not all TVs have this setting.
Specific troubleshooting:
- Identify the situation or circumstance in which the lip sync occurs:
- Confirm if the lip-sync issue happens with only one of the following sources:
- HDMI input
- Set-top box
- Streaming application
- Digital/terrestrial/satellite tuner
- Another source device
- If there is an issue with only one of these sources, the problem may be related to that specific source, or how the source is connected to the TV or external setup.
- If the issue occurs on all sources, move to the next step.
- Confirm if the lip-sync issue happens with only one of the following sources:
- Confirm your device setup:
You're using only a TV, and the issue occurs with the TV's internal speakers
Your soundbar is connected directly to the TV
Your TV is connected to a receiver that has several speakers connected to it
Your TV is connected to a receiver's HDMI IN (ARC/eARC) port
If you still experience lip-sync issues even after performing the steps above, a repair may be needed. Please contact us for further assistance.
