IMPORTANT: This article applies only to specific products and/or operating systems. Check Applicable Products and Categories for details.
If the Microphone button, also known as the voice command function, on your TV remote control isn't responding correctly, there are different steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue.
Note: Make sure you read the Before you start section first before continuing with this article.
Before you start
Before you start troubleshooting, confirm whether your remote control supports voice recognition. Compatible remotes will have a Microphone button or mark.
Notes:
- The location of the Microphone
button or mark on the remote control varies depending on your region and model. Refer to the manual for details.
- For Voice command remote controls: If the Microphone
button (voice command function) does not work after updating the TV or replacing your remote control, refer to this article: How to pair or re-pair your wireless or Voice command remote control to your Google TV™ or Android TV™.
- For Google TV™ models: The TV must be set up as a Google TV (not a basic TV) in order for voice recognition to work via remote control.
For TVs that do not come with a remote control that has a Microphone button or mark, you can use one of the two alternatives below to activate your TV's voice command function.
- Use a software keyboard.
- Use the Google TV mobile app on your smartphone or tablet.
Note: Make sure you connect your mobile device and TV to the same network. For details about OS versions that support Google TV, refer to the appropriate page below:
