How to play 360 Reality Audio music using Amazon Music HD

    IMPORTANT: This article applies only to specific products and/or operating systems. Check Applicable Products and Categories for details.

    To play 360 Reality Audio music using the Amazon Music HD service, you first need to set up the Amazon Alexa feature on the Sony | Music Center app. Once the setup is complete, you can control music playback through the Amazon Music app or voice commands.

    To set up the Amazon Alexa feature on the Sony | Music Center app

    1. Install the Sony | Music Center app on your smartphone.
      Notes:
      • If you have already installed the Sony | Music Center app, make sure the app is updated to the latest version. Learn more about the Sony | Music Center app
      • Make sure your audio device (e.g. Home Theater, Sound Bar or Wireless Speaker) is updated to the latest software version.
    2. Follow the on-screen instructions to set up the Sony | Music Center app.
    3. In the Sony | Music Center app, connect and set up the audio device and smartphone to the same Wi-Fi network.
      IMPORTANT:  During the Sony | Music Center app setup, the Amazon Alexa Setup screen will appear and urge you to register the device, as shown in the screenshot below. Please do not skip this setup step.

    4. Set your audio device name. 
      Note: During the Amazon Alexa Setup, you can set your device name freely. However, we recommend picking the name corresponding to your device type from the names listed below. This will increase the accuracy of voice recognition:
    • For HT-A9: 'Home Theater'
    • For HT-A7000, HT-Z9F/ZF9: 'Sound Bar'
    • For SRS-RA3000, SRS-RA5000: 'Wireless Speaker'

    Control music playback through the Amazon Music app or by using voice commands

    You can control music playback on your audio device either through the Amazon Music app or voice commands. Follow either of these two methods:

    To control music playback using the Amazon Music app 

    To control music playback using voice commands 

    How to check if music is played back using the 360 Reality Audio feature

    Check the following to confirm that music is played back using the 360 Reality Audio feature:

    • For Wireless Speaker (models with the "SRS-RA" prefix): The Sound Mode indicator of the wireless speaker will light up in cyan (a greenish-blue colour) during music playback that uses the 360 Reality Audio feature.
    • For Sound Bar (models with the "HT-" prefix): The 360 Reality Audio icon will be displayed on the playback screen during music playback that uses the 360 Reality Audio feature.

    Notes:

    • To play 360 Reality Audio using the Amazon Music app, you must register for an Amazon Music HD membership.
    • Please note that some of the music content offered in the Amazon Music app is not 360-Reality-Audio-compatible.
    • Amazon Music HD supports the following languages: English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, and Japanese.


    Using the Amazon Music app for Android / iOS

    Casting music from an Android device to the audio device

    When using the Amazon Music app for Android, you can cast music from your smartphone to your audio device in two ways; either using Amazon Alexa or Chromecast built-in. Be aware that you need to cast via Amazon Alexa to use the 360 Reality Audio feature. If you cast via Chromecast built-in, you can only play 2-channel music.

    Note:  When you play music through a Bluetooth connection, you can play 2-channel music.

    Casting music from an iOS device to the audio device

    When using the Amazon Music app for iOS, you can cast music using Amazon Alexa. Be aware that you need to cast via Amazon Alexa to use the 360 Reality Audio feature.

    Notes:

    • When you play music via Bluetooth connection, you can play 2-channel music.
    • The Amazon Music app for iOS doesn't support the Chromecast feature.
